Syndrôm’s music was previously described as “deftly explore(ing) outer worlds before heading towards this circular cosmic spot.” Having rebooted his own France-based imprint Pavillon36 Recordings, "Sans Artifices" is a welcomed return and continues in a brooding post-ambient beat-trodden escape. Seven tracks traversing a vast tribal-downtempo tapestry are merged with darker beat-scapes. Whereas Syndrôm (usually) manipulates electrons and magnetic glitch’n bass, this (name your price) collection is choke full of brooding, tremulous percussion and heavily sporadic rhythms. A label resuscitated from the brink of (digital) extinction, "Sans Artifices" eradicates preconceived notions, takes a step forward, and clearly manifests the skills of a musical mastermind. Fans of early Amon Tobin and Witchman should take note.
